I'll state straight away that I count myself a an old and loyal friend of Thomas Goltz, and I'm a journalist too, so my five stars should perhaps seen in that context. Those were heady times for young conservatives as well as the rabble-rousers of the New Left. Meighan sketches the history of how this came to be the case, and in the process he explains what makes the Central Station extraordinary just as a building right at the heart of a major city centre. My one year old son, after one reading, loves to study the pictures. After all, Glasgow has a custom-built station called Queen Street that exists mainly to serve Edinburgh and whose shorter route runs over a surface as level as a billiard table (once you have laboured up the incline out of Queen Street, of course). An excellent read.. All in all, not a bad addition to the enthusiast's shelf and reasonable value for the money..
